Dolly-Parton
Dolly Parton was born on the 19th January, 1946 at Locust Ridge Tenn. She lived with 12 other children. Her imaginative mind helped her escape from the harsh realities of everyday life. Before she learned to write and read, Dolly Parton was creating her own songs. Her first guitar was given to her when she turned eighteen. She started singing at a Knoxville Tenn station by the age of eleven. The following year, Gold Band Records was an independent label. She made a name in the local scene while in high school but she dreamed of a bigger stage. After she finished her high school, in 1964, she moved to Nashville. Dumb Blonde (both 1967) as well as Something Fishy were among her first Monument Records chart-topping records. Porter Wagoner, a syndicated show on TV at the time, was in search for a female singer on his show. Parton was offered the gig in 1967 and signed to RCA Records in 1968 and became a member of with the Grand Ole Opry in 1969. It was not until 1974 that she decided to leave Wagoner's show because the success of her solo albums such as Joshua Coat, Many Colors and Jolene had outstripped their collaborative efforts. After their split, Parton wrote the song I Will Always Love You for Wagoner and it reached No. The first time it made it to the top spot was in 1974.
